Who We Are

Capital Nordic Walking

Capital Nordic Walking - Canberra’s fully accredited Nordic Walking Specialists

Around the world, millions of Nordic Walkers are enjoying the immense health and fitness benefits that this new form of fitness walking provides because it is more effective than jogging, as gentle as walking, and it is perfect to do with a group of friends. Research has proven that the health benefits of Nordic Walking are significantly greater than regular walking, jogging, swimming, and cycling.

Our Company

Capital Nordic Walking is proud to be a 100% owned and operated Australian company based in Canberra. Starting out as a Sole Trader in October 2014, Capital Nordic Walking became a registered company in November 2018. As of mid 2021 we had taught over 2,000 people to Nordic Walk.

Commitment

We are committed to working with experienced and suitably qualified instructors to provide high quality, fun and effective Nordic Walking courses and coaching, resources and equipment to Canberrans learning to Nordic Walk - whilst supporting the development of an inclusive and supportive local Nordic Walking community that meets to Nordic Walk together regularly.

Passion

At Capital Nordic Walking we strive to put a smile on our clients' faces while helping them achieve their health and fitness goals by becoming competent Nordic Walkers. We pride ourselves in delivering top-quality Nordic Walking instruction ensuring that every client – no matter what their fitness level and challenges are reaps the incredible benefits of Nordic Walking – low-impact, high-results, total-body fitness.

We are happiest when we see our clients enjoying staying fit and healthy – body and mind - through Nordic Walking, loving that they are outdoors in nature, doing something that is affordable, fun, sociable and can be done anywhere by anyone!

Mission

Capital Nordic Walking works strategically across the community to build awareness and understanding of what Nordic Walking is (and isn't!) and why it is considered one of the most effective, low-impact and safe forms of physical activity for people of all ages, fitness levels and health goals - from the super fit to people with significant health challenges.

Vision

We dream of a healthy Australia based on enjoyable physical activity and through, wherever possible, non-medical, natural approaches to prevention of life-style diseases.  We look forward to the day when the Australian medical and Allied Health Professions view and use Nordic Walking as an effective form of treatment in their toolkit for many life style diseases  - as is already happening in other parts of the world - such as in Switzerland where Health Insurance Companies offer reduced premiums for people who Nordic Walk and in Austria where doctors prescribe Nordic Walking as a medical treatment.

Commitment to High Quality Service

Capital Nordic Walking prides itself on its commitment to providing the highest quality of Nordic Walking and Personal Training services. Instructor Kristen Pratt is a qualified Occupational Therapist with a Masters Degree in Education. She has Certificates III and IV in Personal Training and is accredited by Nordic Walking UK, the [Australian] Nordic Academy and the International Nordic Walking Federation (Australia) (INWA).

Duty of Care / Risk Management

Capital Nordic Walking takes its duty of care seriously. Instructors have full public liability and professional indemnity insurance. In addition to Instructors being aware of individual client health issues through their Participant Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PARQ), all Capital Nordic Walking venues have undergone a risk assessment including hazard identification and evaluation, and a risk management plan developed to minimize the likelihood and impact of an incident occurring.

Capital Nordic Walking instructors have current first aid qualifications and carry a First Aid kit during classes. Participant’s PARQ forms are carried by the instructor during classes to enable immediate access to critical health information and emergency contacts in the event of an emergency. Nordic Walking classes will be cancelled if weather conditions are considered to pose a risk or instructors are concerned about participant’s fitness or the suitability of their clothing or footwear.

We stand behind the products and service we provide. Fully backed by our manufacturers and suppliers around the world, we guarantee that if any of our outdoor fitness equipment and/or its components and moving parts fail due to defects in workmanship or materials, within one full year from the date of purchase, we will repair or replace all parts found defective without cost.
